Clockmaking James Ritchie & Son (Clockmakers) have recently returned to the fine art of making traditional clocks. We design our clocks with an eye on traditional styles. All our movements are individually made at our own workshop - each part is made individually and hand finished. We use only the best quality materials. We here at James Ritchie combine our traditional skills with modern machines and where possible we will improve on old movements. If you require a real clock which can be a joy to own and can be passed from generation to generation please contact us and discuss your requirements. The firm of James Ritchie & Son (Clockmakers) was founded in 1809 and from those early days has specialised in the manufacture and service of large clocks, developing an expertise which has kept pace with technological trends. More modern designs utilise synchronous electric drives and electronic controls but the company still service and restore mechanical clocks over 150 years old. | Customer Service Today our customers appreciate the comprehensive service which we provide:- design, manufacture, installation, service, electrification and restoration. Floral Clock The world’s first public Floral Clock was built by us in 1903 and installed in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens. It has a dial with a diameter of twelve feet and a cuckoo to mark the hour and quarter hours. James Ritchie & Son (Clockmakers) still proudly maintain and service this clock today. | Some of our UK customers | Edinburgh Area | Glasgow Area | Other Areas | St Giles Cathedral Canongate Tolbooth Highland Tolbooth Tron Kirk General Register House Balmoral Hotel Calton Hill Time Ball Muirfield Golf Club | Tron Theatre St Georges Tron Stirling Library Strathclyde University Briggait Supreme High Court Shettleston Police Station | Newcastle Airport Guild Hall, Londonderry St Andrews University Culzean Castle Diageo Leven Floors Castle Wemyss Castle St Andrews Golf Club | Morningside Pillar | Tolbooth Steeple | Kirkcaldy Town Hall | |
